Commitment over Confidence
We commit to having a job over many decades. We commit to paying a mortgage over 30 years. We commit to supporting our kids over a lifetime.
We commit to each of these every day.
Yet with our dreams, many people say…
I’ll give it a chance for 6 months and see if it works.
If it doesn’t happen in a year I’ll go back to my old job.
Maybe tomorrow.
Perhaps it’s already too late.
Someone else is already doing it.
After I have more money.
Before I’m 40. After I retire.
Once I have more confidence.
When my next promotion comes.
Next year I’ll quit that thing that makes me unfulfilled.
Maybe, after, perhaps, next year, if, too early, too late, tomorrow, and let’s see but no commitment.
When your business needs more funds would you maybe do it next year? No. You may not know 'how to' but you find a way. Would you tell your lander, “well, let me see how it goes but I may give up my home if it’s hard to pay the bills?” No. You may not know 'how to' but you find a way. Would you say in a job interview, “maybe tomorrow I’ll do my job or perhaps it’s already too late for me to have this position?” No. You may not know 'how to' but you find a way.
Yet, how come we do it with the things we desire most, with those things you are dreaming of for so long? How come they are often the last priority for so many people?
What are you committed to?
