Lives of Desperation - Q&A
Yesterday, you quoted Henry David Thoreau in that, “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” Why the negative connotation in the simple act of living, in this case?
Because within that, there is a choice of:
I'm not going to let life live fully through me in the way that it wants, with love or with expression.
That's not possible that's scary, that’s unrealistic.
There is some kind of judgment that comes into place to hold back from the full expression of all the force of life through us. It’s a choice to limit our being. And who is limiting? “Me”!
Why do we operate this way?
We have been deliberately educated to believe that we are separated beings with an agency of our experience that is other than life itself or oneness or consciousness.
Think of a time when you doubted yourself, or felt you weren’t good enough. Where do you think these thoughts came from? The root cause is always the process of creating separation. We separate from self with the need to determine a perception of ourselves. We draw our conclusion by comparing ourselves to others that we perceive as better, lesser, valuable, etc.
